Information for Applicants: Academic Year 2009

We welcome applications from highly qualified graduates of  US allopathic and osteopathic medical schools, as well as international medical schools graduates.  We seek applicants with a demonstrated record of academic excellence and scholarship, who display outstanding interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism.  We celebrate diversity and recognize that the unique personal experiences and backgrounds of our residents enrich the overall educational experience at Memorial.

Some Practical Points:

Җ We offer approximately 10 categorical internal medicine positions each year, interviewing approximately 100 applicants.

Җ We do not offer preliminary year positions.

Җ Applications are accepted only through ERAS: no paper applications are accepted.

Җ Applications will be accepted through November 30th, 2008.  It is advantageous to apply early.

Җ Interview season will begin on November 4, 2008 and end on January 22, 2009.

Җ USMLE scores must be 82 and above on Step 1 and Step 2

Information for International Medical Graduates:

Although US/North American clinical experience is not mandatory, experience in the US/North American health care system during clinical rotations as a medical student or in the form of a post-graduate observership is helpful. Memorial Hospital of RI and Brown Medical School do not offer post-graduate observerships. Interested students may apply for rotations through the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Information regarding exchange medical student programs may be obtained from the office of Dr. Julianne Ip MD, Associate Dean of Medicine (Advising and International Medical Students) .

We offer J-1 visas and will extend H1 visas to prospective candidates presently employed in the US holding an H-1 visa. Candidates interested in H1B visa support must take and pass the USMLE Step 3 prior to Match Day.

Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduate certification is not required at the time of application.  However, it is required prior to the end of the interview season for placement on our final NRMP rank list.
